nintendo 3ds stuff
I've recently gotten into buying and repairing original 3DS XLs (and some 2DS XLs). The ability to run custom firmware, install homebrew, and use custom themes is super rad. This inspired me to start learning resin casting to make my own custom A/B/X/Y and D-pad buttons. Madmorda wrote up an excellent starter guide, but I've had mixed results so far with my resin not fully curing. I'll post more as I refine my approach and get better at it!
It's been super handy to have a 3D printer as well, as it allowed me to print a mold box for creating the silicone molds and also print tiny letters to embed inside the resin buttons (the 2DS XL has the A/B/X/Y imprints on the buttons, but the 3DS XL only has printed text on the buttons which the mold can't replicate).
Below you can see images of the 3D printed mold box, the resin (and letters) in the mold, and the first test batch of buttons (clear resin with some silver glitter in them).
